Greetings! I am honored to serve as the assistant principal and instructional leader for Bernd Elementary School for the 2020-2021 school year. I anticipate a wonderful year of digital innovation as we implement virtual 21stCentury Standards-based Classrooms and Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS)- promoting student leaders through Stephen Covey's Leader in Me. 

I began my teaching career in 1995 after graduating from Valdosta State University with a degree in Special Education.  I have obtained a Master's Degree in Foundations in Education from Troy University, a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College and doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University. My dissertation defense addressed "Eighth Grade Students Perception of Classroom Instruction, Positive Learning Environment and Self-Efficacy and Outcomes on State Assessments."

My career included teaching students with emotional and learning disabilities. I've served as a special education teacher (grades 7-9), special education lead and teacher with special duties at the district level. I've also served on the Georgia Alternate Assessment Range Findings and Articulation Committee with the Georgia Department of Education for a couple of years at the inception of the assessment.  

You have my commitment as a life-long learner to continuously engage in professional learning opportunities to improve my practice as an instructional and organizational leader.  I understand the impact a positive school culture and climate has on student growth and achievement; therefore, I am committed to developing  student leaders by  modeling expected behaviors first. 

As a graduate of the Bibb County School System, I look forward to serving the students, parents, staff and community members of my beloved hometown.
